Seminole Wind - Island Packet 465
Length 49’, beam 14’, Weight circa 20 tons, Rig - cutter
Built for the European Market in 2009/10, St Petersburg Florida, she crossed the Atlantic for the first time on a freighter to be the showboat at London and Southampton boat shows.. We bought her in 2011 and the first time she felt water under her keel was when we commissioned her in 2011. She was in her element at last. Her first passage was dodging both English Channel Gales and the huge European sales taxes in a dash to Guernsey and we spent the next two seasons fitting out, shaking down and falling in love.
Since then we’ve added luxuries like aircon, generator, water maker etc. Fitted davits, wind generator and steadily improved all systems. A lighting strike in Naples Fl lead to a refit including replacement and improvement of all electronics and we now boast fast wifi thanks to Starlink. She is a Range Rover of the seas, a “go anywhere” vessel with no fuss and a presence that inspired confidence.
She has a long keel and a great motion at sea that gave us a safe and comfortable two-handed passage back across the Atlantic Christmas of 2013/14. We now have well over 20,000 nautical miles under her keel in all weathers from the Northern European winter to the tropical Islands of the Western Caribbean and the love affair continues.
Her name comes from a song we first heard 30 years ago calling attention to the plight of the Everglades, a place we love and her anchor has rested in the rivers and lagoons of the Glades and 10,000 Islands many times.
She is our home for at least 6 months of every year.
