It’s that time of year

There are so many it’s hard to count. I’m writing this on a boat my wildest dreams could not have imagined and in a place I never thought I would go to. I flew here in luxury and can afford to go pretty much where I please. My belly is full, bank account extremely healthy, I’m over 70, still living life to the full and my health is holding out fine so far. I have a beautiful place to live and my toy cupboard is full to overflowing.

But above and beyond all of that I have a family to love and be loved by, our two daughters who continue to make me proud, Grandchildren finding their own way in the world, brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews in our huge extended family. We have many friends, true friends, not the social media type, I’d need a lot more fingers to count them all.

Then of course I have my lovely, loving soul mate who has shared my life for over four decades. Single handedly she made my life richer, fuller and happier. All those years of spending too many nights away in soulless hotels taught me the value of home but home is not a place, it’s so much more than that, its about people not places. For me home is wherever we are. I see the world through her eyes every bit as much as my own, we are joined, not for convenience, safety or comfort but out of a love that brings all those things and more.  The word synergy was created for us or at least it should have been – we are indeed and always will be greater than the sum of two parts.

So to all those who have touched our lives and brought us joy, Happy New Year. 2024 marks our 40th wedding anniversary and my New Year Resolution is to spend this special year in the company of family and as many friends old and new as we possibly can to say thank you for memories we share and the adventures yet to come.
